Here they are !

THEY WON !

Spirit of America Percussion Wind Ensemble came home with the gold!  Not only that but it was four points higher than any other group in their division!  When the bus pulled into the parking lot the kids were greeted by gold balloons and huge welcome home signs with African patterns on them.  Each of the Ensemble was wearing their metal as they stepped off.

Seriously awesome !

Today is the Day

Today is the day when the 4 am practice time, the uncountable hours of working with "Dr. Beat", the nights when you wanted to go to a movie, but instead chose to find your drum pad and start to practice pays off.  This is the day when your parents and friends say, "the drumming on the counter, the couch, your chest, (and any flat surface that could be found) was well worth it."

Whether you bring home a medal or not, you have won because the experience of success through all your hard work.

You will be changed by it.  Be Proud and Grateful. We are.

Today

Today Spirit of America's Winter Percussion unit placed first in their section of WGI percussion championships.  What to say ! I watched the show and was thrilled to see the whole floor on the screen.
So, tomorrow they will compete last in their section.  I am so proud of them there is no way to express myself.  What I am most proud of is their attitude through the whole season.  That seems to be what makes all the difference, well that and pratice, pratice, pratice- you know the drill !

Wow

Prelims today!

Just heard the kids are doing their last run before getting ready to go to go do prelims.  I saw a photo on the facebook page, and they look like they are completely in the task at hand.  Cant wait to watch them-they are exceptional this year.

There is a new story on the Spirit of America site about the floor design that Winter Percussion used this year- here is the link to the page. Its a interesting story.

Kids arrived safe and sound

They are in the field and getting ready to start pratice after a bag lunch dinner as you can see.....

Off they go !

The Spirit of America Winter Percussion flew out of Providence this morning to go compete in WGI World Championship in Dayton Ohio this week.  Now is the time when all the hard work and long hours pays off as they step onto the floor this week.

The show we saw on Saturday night was absolutely fantastic.  This group of kids has that attitude that projects into the stands.  (Ours was slightly shifting to the beat!)  The entire gymnasium was clapping together, which in the New England Area is unusual !  I think the word would be infectious....I was so proud of the work they have done.

This show communicates the fusion of the American culture and the African culture from their trip to South Africa last year. It is fantastic and if you can get to Dayton check it out.

on your mark....

Get set !

Spirit of America Winter Percussion is almost out the door.  Before they go however, we have had a long tradition of having a perfomance night together so all of the people supporting them, scrubbing the floor, sewing costumes, driving them hither and thither, have a chance to see the whole show with all the "bells and whistles".  We also have a really fun dessert auction to try to give the Winter Percussion a bit more support beyond what the kids have raised themselves.  The dessert makers have a quiet competition on the side to see who can make the most amazing dessert.  This is when the best ingredients come out !
I happened to see a list of whats up for auction and they really are awesome.  I did list some of them on our facebook page if you are curious.  There is something for everyone.

Lately, with all of the support from people in town (as well as many others) It just seemed like we should share this time with all of the supporters.

So here it is, come join us for a really fun night. This Saturday April 14th at 6:30 pm in Eastham at Nauset Regional High School. (And bid on my Buttermilk cake with tart lemon sauce!)

Here is the link if you want to see a few pictures of the Winter Percussion show.
